Cabell Midland Christmas Madrigal Dinner December 8th and 9th
Posted on 12/01/2017

The Cabell Midland High School Collegium musicum, under the direction of Ed Harkless, Music Department Chair and Choral Music Teacher will be presenting their 24th Annual Christmas Madrigal Dinner December 8, 2017 at 6:30 PM and December 9, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the school.

The evening consists of a play, dinner and concert.  Tickets are $15.00 per person and are on sale now.  To purchase tickets, contact any member, parent of students or Mr. Harkless by calling (304) 7437400 Ext. 7420.  Advance purchase of tickets are recommended as the event often sells out, making a limited number of tickets available at the door.

This year’s play, “A Murderous Masquerade” written by students in the class, is a tale of murder and mystery. It takes place during the holiday as the royals have invited members of the town to the castle for an evening of feasting. As the suspense builds, dinner is served. Dinner is a traditional meal of baked ham, potato, green beans, roll and coffee/tea. Cake will be served as the desert. After dinner, dances ensue and the play resumes followed by the annual concert presented by Collegium musicum.

Musical selections include: an arrangement of traditional carols (Deck the Halls, Carol of the Bells, Good King Wenceslas, Sussex Carol, Sing We Now of Christmas an arrangement of Coventry Carol by Ed Harkless, director and other well-known holiday selections.) While most of the selections are performed A Cappella, there will be drum, tambourine, handbells and a string quartet from the CMHS Orchestra (directed by Ron Caviani).

Proceeds will go to assist students in their spring travel plans, purchase music and supplies and to help students who have made state honor choirs attend these events. Seven of Mr. Harkless’ students (Laura Clagg, Bilen Zerie, Jillian Blake, Caleb Dorsey, Joshua McCallister, Jadon Hayes and Ethan Niebergall) were selected, by competitive audition, for the 2018 WVACDA All State High School Honor Choir in Charleston. Additionally, some of the funds raised will help students travel to Boston during spring break for a concert tour.

For more information, please contact Ed Harkless, Music Department Chair, by calling the school at (304) 743-7400 Ext. 7420.
