For many years, current Cabell County Board of Education member, Rhonda Smalley, directed the Cabell Midland Marching Knights as they won numerous state and national honors.

Friday, as a 2014 Inaugural Inductee into the West Virginia Marching Band Directors Hall of Fame, Smalley had the pleasure of presenting the band’s current director, Tim James, with the $1,000 award that came along with her honor. Smalley presented the check to James at the band’s contest show preview Friday evening, July 31, 2015.

The $1,000 grant was provided by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History with the backing of Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith. $1,000 grants were also given to the Ripley and Princeton high school bands in honor of their former directors and Hall of Fame Inductees, Sherry Poole and Julia Kade.

“Thanks to all who continue to support band/music in our schools,” said Smalley of the award.
